About is the app's trust center: the version you're running, the boundary around your data and actions, every disclosed network path, license terms, support, release notes, legal terms and market-data attribution.
The first panel keeps four commitments scannable:
- Local-first, with named network paths: your portfolio stays in a file on this device, and the app never sends your accounts, holdings or plan anywhere on its own. Price requests carry ticker symbols to the source you configure, never account or position records. A hosted AI or connected client receives portfolio content only after you configure or enable that path; a model running on this computer can keep it all local.
- Not advice: every output is an illustration computed from inputs and allocations you chose. The terms on this page are the same text the one-time gate showed at first launch. There is one copy, so what you accepted is what you can re-read. If that text ever changes materially, the gate returns once and asks again rather than assuming the old agreement covers the new wording.
- Verify before acting: prices and fund details come from third-party feeds and can be delayed or wrong; confirm against your broker before transacting.
- Update check, disclosed: about daily, and never sooner than 20 hours after the last successful automatic check, the app asks rangefinderinvest.com whether a newer version exists. It sends only the running version number, the operating system, and, until the first successful check, a new-install flag plus a random one-time receipt. The receipt is not tied to an account or app data; it only keeps a retried request from counting twice. No usage analytics or portfolio data is sent. Turn it off in Settings → "Check for updates automatically"; a manual "Check for Updates…" still works with it off. Microsoft Store installs skip this entirely. The Store manages their updates.
It also states the app's hard action boundary: there is no brokerage connection and it never places a trade. A purchased license never expires, includes 12 months of releases and has no automatic renewal; your local portfolio remains readable and exportable. After an unlicensed trial ends, the main process blocks portfolio, planning, import and market-data writes; viewing/reporting, export, backup/recovery, license and update-check operations, confirmed privacy erasure, security shutdown and appearance/accessibility controls remain available. What's new
The What's new panel lists the release notes bundled with this build, newest first, with one entry per release line. The top one is the version you're running. They're also in the Help center under What's new.
The newest entry opens from Help → What's New, from the top row of this panel, or from the up-to-date result in Settings. The "a newer version is available" banner deliberately goes only to the download; this build cannot claim to contain another build's notes.
Getting help, and reporting a problem
Get help · Report a problem opens the support page in your browser, or writes to the support inbox with your version already in the subject line. Nothing from your portfolio is attached. Say what you were doing and what you expected. The same route lives in the Help menu ("Report a Problem…"), so it's reachable from anywhere in the app.
The published site, privacy policy, and terms of use are linked from the top panel; they open in your browser, not in the app.
